Great Fitzgerald

Gin

Ingredients
2oz Gin (Beefeater)
.75oz Fresh lemon juice
1oz Simple syrup
2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
8-10 Mint leaves

*Mint bouquet

Similar to the original Fitzgerald recipe, this drink is named after its famous author who was fabled to prefer this gin sour. Do we know this for a fact? Probably not. But it’s nice to think we can enjoy the same drink Fitzgerald was enjoying while writing iconic novels and short stories. The twist on this classic recipe is the addition of fresh mint. A nice addition to this fresh citrus forward cocktail.

This is a very simple drink to make and you can modify the ratio quite easily to your taste preferences. Using different types of gin can introduce new flavor profiles you may prefer. I prefer a London dry gin as the base, but have also enjoyed several alternative gin versions as well, such as; Sloe, Barrel aged, Old Tom, etc.

Recipe
1. Add gin, lemon, simple syrup, and bitters to shaker.
2. Put 8-10 mint leaves in the palm of your hand and slap it! Slapping the mint releases its fregerance. Try smelling before and after the slap.
3. Add the mint to the shaker and shake with cubed ice till cold.
4. Pour over mesh strainer into rocks glass with large ice cube.
5. Garnish with mint bouquet.

Notes:
Traditionally this drink is made without mint. If you would like to try it… follow the same ingredients without mint and garnish with a lemon wedge.
